Sufixos: A prova de inglês no Enem exige interpretação de textos. Portanto, o conhecimento de sufixos e prefixos te ajuda a interpretar muito melhor, aumentando em muito a sua chance de garantir sua vaga numa boa universidade. Eles podem te ajudar a descobrir a classe gramatical de um termo e deduzir o significado das palavras.

Mas, o que são sufixos? Sufixos são partículas que colocamos nos finais das palavras para mudar a classe gramatical, por exemplo, transformar um substantivo num adjetivo.

Veja um exemplo: COLOUR (COR, SUBSTANTIVO) →COLORFUL (COLORIDO, ADJETIVO).

 

Sufixos

Alguns sufixos importantes:

  1. –ful: (full + cheio). Quando acrescentamos o sufixo –ful, transformamos a palavra num adjetivo.

(A internet é uma ferramenta útil.)

She is a very succesful woman.  (Ela é uma mulher bem sucedida.)

 

  1. -ish (similar)

He is such a childish man.
 (Ele é uma criança.)

 

  1. –ous

This area is very montainous.
 (Esta área é muito montanhosa.)

Air pollution has reached dangerours levels in some cities. (Poluição do ar alcançou níveis perigosos em algumas cidades)

 

  1. -able/-ible (que pode ser/quem tem as características)

Mr. Smith is a very reliable man.
(Sr. Smith é um homem bastante confiável.)

Heather’s handwriting is not really readible. (A caligrafia da Heather não é muito legível.)

Tap water in Brazil is drinkable. (Água da torneira no Brasil é potável.

 

  1. -like (similar)

Shouting is not so ladylike! (Gritar não é comportamento de uma dama!)

Christmas always fills her with childlike excitement. (Natal sempre a deixa com um sentimento de criança.)

 

  1. -less (sem, com nada)

The chances were endless.
(As chances eram sem fim.)

The lawyers said it was a hopeless case.(Os advogados disseram que era um caso sem esperança.)

 

  1. -al (relacionado com)

This plant has magical powers.
(Esta planta tem poderes mágicos.

 

  1. –ly O sufixo –ly é um sufixo formador de advérbios.

It’s exactly three o’clock.
(São exatamente três horas.)

 

Atenção:

Quando acrescentamos o sufixo –ly aos adjetivos hard (difícil), high (alto) e late (tarde), o significado destas palavras é alterado.

The bird flew high in the sky (O pássaro voou alto no céu.)

His students spoke highly of the their teacher. (Seus alunos enalteceram seu professor.)

SUFIXOS –ING E –ED:

1- Quando acrescentamos –ed no final do verbo, estamos descrevendo o que a pessoa sente.

  • I have nothing to do. I’m (Não tenho nada para fazer, estou entendiada)
  • Sufixes are difficult. I am (Sufixos são difíceis). Estou confusa).

2- Quando acrescentamos –ing, é a situação, algo ou alguém que causa o sentimento na pessoa.

  • This film is boring. (Este filme é chato).

Aqui o filme causa o sentimento de tédio na pessoa.

  • This book is so interesting. (Este livro é tão interessante).
  • Outros exemplos:
